Problems Getting Sleep and When You Should Contact Your Doctor
A lot of us will have the odd night where we really struggle to get off to sleep, this could be for a wide range of reasons: An exam in the morning, a big presentation in work or it could be something rare such as having a bit of an over-indulgent lie in the night before. Sadly for some people they can struggle to get the recommended 8 or 9 hours worth of sleep each night and may find that no matter how hard they try that they rarely get enough sleep for them to feel recharged the next day.
Everyone is different when it comes to getting enough sleep and some people may need a longer or shorter time with our head on the pillow than others. The British Sleep Council recommends 8 hours but as long as you get enough sleep to feel refreshed and prepared for the next day and staying awake for the duration of the day then you are probably getting enough sleep. People who struggle with their work, yawn a lot and begin to flag near the end of the day are definitely getting not enough sleep and should try to go to bed earlier.
But despite this some people still struggle to get the right amount of sleep and this could be down to two things: a medical problem or your bed not being right for you. Some people do get the right amount of sleep but can still feel lethargic during the day and this is a key symptom for a number of possible conditions that this could be down to.
If you are struggling to get comfortable in your bed or wake up feeling stiff or sore then the bed you sleep on could be causing problems that are preventing you from dropping off to sleep. There are plenty of people who are sleeping on the wrong kind of mattress for them or are sleeping on mattresses that are in dire need of replacing.
You should visit a doctor if you find your back or spine are hurting, there are orthopaedic recommendations and specialist beds available to help you get a better night's sleep. Some beds can be motorised to help you sit up in bed to read a book, eat breakfast in bed or watch TV too.
If after you have changed your bed you find you are still struggling to sleep then you may need to get help from your doctor or a specialist. Hopefully you'll be sleeping like a baby once you have made sure you have the right bed for you.
Keep your eye out online for great deals on beds and mattresses suiting all sizes such as double beds or king size beds
